Badrinath Temple - Seat of Lord Vishnu

     Badrinath is regarded as the seat of Lord Vishnu,seen as the most important of the char dham .It gets more visitors than the other three because it lies on the way to Hemkund sahib,the Sikh pilgrimage.
       Located on the banks of river Alaknanada and along the Neelkanth mountains ,Badrinath temple is second to none.Badridham is regarded as the holiest of the four temple,devoted to Lord Vishnu.Perched on the mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan ,Badrinath is the home of Lord Vishnu.The name Badrinath is derived from the local berries growing the area known as 'Badri'.

     
Mythology of Badrinath
       According to the legend,when Brahma's daughter Ganga was asked to descend on earth to absolve the sins of predecessors of Bhagirath,the earth was unable to withstand the force of her descent.Therefore Ganga was split into twelve channels ,Alaknanada being one of them.The mountains of Badrinath find mention in Mahabharatha.Pandavas during the last journey of their life passed through the Badrinath on their way to Swargarohini.

Air       - Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun around 310 km
               from Badrinath
Train   -Rishikesh 297km and Kothdwar 327 km.
Raod    - Buses from Delhi,Haridwar and Rishikesh.

What to see at Badrinath 

Badrinath temple-   The temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is 15 metre high.The temple is believed to be built by Adi Shankaracharya,who established a 'Math' here.The temple main gate looks attractive due to colorful patterns on main door known as 'Singh Dwar'.The temple has three parts the Garbha griha,Darshan mandap (for puja) and Shobha mandap(for devotees).The temple has many idols but a black stone idol seated in a meditative pose is joy to watch.

Tapt Kund- The devotees take a bath in hot spring before entering the temple.

Brahma Kapal-Situated on the banks of river Alaknanda ,it is used for the Shradha ceremony by Hindus.Travellers used to perform pind dana for satisfaction of their ancestors.According to legend the cut head of Brahma was dropped here by Lord Shiva near Alaknanada.


Sheshnetra-A rock having the impression resembling the serpent Sheshnag's eyes.


Charanpaduka-The impression of the foot of Lord Vishnu can be seen here.


Mana gaon-Considered to be the last village enroute to tibet.This village boasts of Vyas gufa where Saint Ved Vyas wrote Mahabharata .Bhim pul is a natural bridge over Saraswati river.Vasundhara falls a waterfall 122 mts high.
